Vettakkorumakan is a deity worshipped in parts of Northern Kerala and Malabar regions.Vettakkorumakan is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva by his consort Paravathi, born when he assumed the form of Kiratamurti form to test the determination and perseverance of Arjuna, before delivering a weapon known as Pasupathasthra. The deity of Vettakkorumakan, described as a dark hunter with two hands, having bow and arrow and a Kerala weapon Churika, with a crown on his head adorned by peocock feathers and crescent moon, with ruddy eyes and prominent moustache.Vettakkorumakan is worshipped according to Vedic tradition as a Shaivite deity. Vettakkorumakan is also known as Kirata Sunu.Vettakkorumakan is mostly and exclusively worshipped in Malabar region. The famous temple of this deity is Balussery-Kotta. It is believed that Vettakkorumakan is the family deity of Kurmbanad Rajas and Randu illam vargam Nambiars.The deity in Pudhiyankam Desam dates back to many centuries and Vattaekkattu and Pullozhi thayvazhikal got the dominance in temple festivities and rituals and still follows the same.The major festivites includes yearly VELA festival falling on Attam Nakshtram, in Mena Maasam. The other being Prathistta Dhinam on Edavam masam, Chothi nakshathra.In addition Kanyaar kali, Naga poojaa, Atham Chaturthi, Ardra Darsanam, Manadala pooja etc also is performed.
